Effective July 1, 2024, Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) Associate Professor Julie Wolf, PhD, has stepped into a new YCSC vice chair role, for professional development and education. Wolf has been a member of the YCSC community since 2005, when she joined the department to complete her post-doctoral fellowship, after which, in 2007, she joined the faculty.
A licensed clinical psychologist and associate professor of child psychology at the YCSC, Wolf also serves as the associate director of the YCSC’s Developmental Disabilities Clinic and brings with her many experiences related to this new role, including serving on the postgraduate associate committee since its inception, overseeing the postgraduate advising program, co-chairing the academic clinician mentoring committee, supervising psychology trainees and postgraduate fellows, and providing community consultations pertaining to autism.
The YCSC serves as the department of child psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, and vice chairs have historically been appointed by the department chair, consistent with other departmental practices across the school. At the YCSC, vice chairs join and work together as the department’s strategy and stewardship team. This is the first appointment to that team made through a new nomination and blinded review process informed by community feedback and involving all members of the team.
The new vice chair position encompasses two important components: 1) stewarding YCSC professional development and related external training offerings and 2) serving as a liaison among the department's broad training and educational community, including training program directors and trainees across a variety of programs.
“Dr. Wolf is well-prepared to enter this role,” commented YCSC Chair Linda Mayes. “She has developed and administrated mentorship and training opportunities for trainees and has extensive experience supervising fellows and students, as well as participating in our training programs.”
Wolf has also been involved in consultative and collaborative work within public schools and has led branding and outreach work. She shared, “I envision a role that aligns with my own core values of inclusiveness, collaboration, and lifelong learning and that furthers professional education and training in service of child mental health, in line with the department’s mission.”
