Maryam Zulfiqar grew up in Lahore, Pakistan. She attended The Aga Khan University, Medical College. During medical school, she took particular initiative in student mental wellbeing and suicide prevention, by co-founding a student support group and mentorship program. Maryam served as the resident representative for the Central PA, AACAP chapter.
She is drawn to the therapeutic power of narratives through mediums of painting, poetry, and theater. In medical school, she balanced her education whilst taking an active part in theater. She wrote and directed plays that went on to win several competitions. She is currently involved in The Yale Resident and Fellow Senate as the Vice Chair of Media for The Diversity Equity and Belonging Council. Maryam is interested in childhood trauma and resilience. She is working on an illustrated book for children.
