Biography

Federico Gomez Bernal, MD was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. After receiving his MD from Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia), he spent three years as a Volunteer Physician with the National Health Brigade, providing primary care services in underserved regions of Colombia affected by armed conflict. Federico was a research fellow at the “Syncope and Falls in the Elderly” Lab at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston; worked at the Cardiac Psychiatry Research Program at MGH and joined the Laboratory for Neuropsychiatry & Neuromodulation. Federico completed his general psychiatry training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where he developed a particular interest in working with the Latino population, volunteering at the Center Clinic in Dodge Center, MN, where he helped with psychoeducation sessions for Spanish speaking participants as well as volunteered at the Salvation Army’s Good Samaritan Clinic, providing free mental health care for patients in Rochester. During his training, he found his passion for psychotherapy (particularly psychodynamic psychotherapy, PCIT, and systemic therapy), early childhood interventions, development, personality disorders, and trauma. When not working, Federico loves to draw, cook, rock climb, and bike.
