Launched in 2022 to provide personal care and household cleaning products for families in need who receive services at Yale Child Study Center (YCSC), Someone Cares Closet (SCC) grew out of a collaboration between YCSC and Claire’s Corner Copia in New Haven, Connecticut.
A donation drive for SCC will be hosted at Claire’s—located at 1000 Chapel Street—from September 4 – 17, 2025, with a variety of personal care items and monetary donations collected. Needed items include toilet paper, baby shampoo, laundry detergent, baby wipes, hair ties, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and body wash.
Visitors to Claires who bring a personal care item or make a monetary donation will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win dinner at Claire's. The winner will be announced on September 17, 2025.
The closet was developed jointly by YCSC Assistant Clinical Professor Carolina Rivera Parrott, LCSW, and Claire’s Corner Copia owner and namesake Claire Criscuolo, RN, to addresses hygiene poverty, a term used to describe the inability to afford everyday hygiene items that many people take for granted.
