Dr. Fay E. Brown was a featured speaker at the 8th annual Nathan Ebanks Foundation conference on inclusive education in Jamaica at the Montego Bay Convention Centre from October 28-31, 2015. Dr. Brown is an Associate Research Scientist at the Yale Child Study Center and the Director of Child and Adolescent Development at Comer School Development Program.
On the first day of the conference, Dr. Brown gave the opening keynote speech, “The whole child approach for effective teaching, learning, and development” on the first day of the conference. She made the case that to support individualized learning and ensure success for every student, educators and other school personnel must take a holistic approach in their efforts to educate children.
She also the ending keynote speech, “Putting Children at the center of education,” using examples and excerpts from the students on the panel, and tying those to selected educational research.
The Nathan Ebanks Foundation® (NEF) was founded in 2007 by the parents of a child with disabilities in Jamaica, to ensure that all children, particularly those with disabilities and special needs, “are included, empowered and supported to access and participate in holistic development–education, intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative and spiritual–to release their full potential.”
