August 08, 2022

Coordinated by Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) Program Administrator Tanya Colón, an annual back to school supply drive to benefit New Haven public school students is now underway, ending on Friday, August 19, 2022.

Supply needs include pencils, erasers, 12" rulers, glue, composition notebooks, backpacks, binders, highlighters, markers, crayons, folders, and pens. Drop off locations are listed below, and items can also be purchased directly from an amazon wish list.

Drop-off locations:

  • Yale Police Department, 101 Ashmun Street
  • Yale Child Study Center, 230 South Frontage Road, Lobby
  • Yale Human Resources, 221 Whitney Avenue, Lobby & 4th Floor
  • Yale Internal Medicine, 100 Church Street South, Suite 100 B
  • YSM ODI, 100 Church Street South, 1st Floor, B Wing
  • YCSC, 350 George Street, Lobby

The annual back to school drive is going on its seventh year, having started as a collaborative project between the New Haven Fire Department (NHFD) and the Yale Latino Networking Group, co-chaired by Colón at the time. Over the years, the drive has benefited over 3,000 local youth, who were provided with new backpacks and school supplies just in time for their first day of school.

This year, Yale's eight affinity groups, the Yale Police Department, and NHFD have partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater New Haven and plan to hold a family fair in late August to distribute the bags. If you are interested in volunteering or know someone in need, please e-mail Tanya Colón.
