Child Study Center Grand Rounds: Outer SPACE: Novel Applications of Parent-Based Treatment for Restricted Eating, Somatic Problems, and ‘Failure to Launch’

Avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder was newly added to the latest iteration of the DSM and few evidence-based treatment protocols exist as yet. Medically unexplained symptoms and the phenomenon of adult children who fail to transition to independent adulthood are also prevalent problems without established interventions. This talk will demonstrate the adaptation and application of SPACE, a parent-based treatment developed for childhood anxiety and OCD to these challenging issues and present preliminary findings on their feasibility and efficacy.
