PEER Supports Bridgeport Early Childhood Social-Emotional Learning Initiative
In an effort to promote coordinated, high quality SEL programming and supports for the young children and families of Bridgeport, a number of local stakeholders came together in the summer of 2018 to launch the Bridgeport Early Childhood SEL Initiative (BECSELI). The initiative is led by the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, and PEER is contributing as an evaluation partner. Several of PEER’s member organizations serve on the BECSELI Steering Committee.
Lifespan Research: Impact of Childhood Disease on Adult Health
YCCI’s renewed CTSA grant award allows Yale to continue its leadership in cutting-edge areas of research. One such novel initiative under the grant renewal is Diseases Across the Lifespan, which will explore the rising field of lifespan research — a new approach to examining the ways in which diseases that commonly strike adults have their roots in infancy and early childhood.
Yale launches five-year study of origins of autism
Yale researchers will study the development of functional brain connectivity during late pregnancy to early adolescence thanks to a five-year, $12.4 million grant from Autism Centers of Excellence Program, part of efforts by the National Institutes of Health to understand the origins of autism spectrum disorders (ASD).

This merger comes after YCEI received numerous grants to expand RULER, its evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that serves over a million students in over 1000 K-12 schools.

Primary Prevention in Child Psychiatry—The Transformative Power of Children and Families
Yale School of Medicine's Prof. James F. Leckman was featured on the Brain Behavior Research Foundation's Webinar Series, 'Meet the Scientist' on 10 May 2016. In his presentation, Dr. Leckman emphasized the key importance a parent's potential to set the stage for their child's mental, emotional and physical well-being that can last not only life long, but for generations to come. His talk focused on the substantial body of data concerning the long-term impact of adverse childhood experiences on the developing brain, followed by a review of the promise of viable early parent-child interventions designed to reduce violence in families and communities in a cost-effective manner.
