YCCI Partnerships with Primary Clinical Affiliates

YCCI oversees clinical research at Yale New Haven Health (YNHH), which serves patients from Connecticut, eastern New York and Long Island, southwestern Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. It is one of the country’s largest health systems, with 7,500 medical staff, over 2,600 inpatient beds distributed among eight acute care hospitals and 245 ambulatory sites serving 3.5 million ambulatory visits per year. As of 2025, more than 4 million patient records are stored in an integrated electronic health record (Epic) shared by YNHHS and two federally qualified health centers.

Additionally, the Veterans Administration Connecticut Healthcare System (VACHS), a close partner with YCCI and the Yale CTSA, provides care to nearly 60,000 unique patients with both inpatient and outpatient facilities. The research program of VACHS is annually ranked among the top five programs in the VA system. It is home to VA-supported research centers on spinal cord injury, pain, PTSD, HIV, and the comorbidity of addiction and chronic psychiatric illness. It also houses research cores for positron emission tomography and magnetoencephalography. These interactions across all systems and partnerships make Yale a hub for clinical and translational research across the region, as well as a prime contributor to the CTSA hub network.

YCCI and the Yale CTSA have partnerships across the state of CT for research recruitment. These collaborations have ensured that our research population is representative of the entire state for more generalizable research.
