Raymond Lenox Receives Ruth McCorkle Oncology Advanced Practice Provider Award

Raymond Lenox, APRN, was presented with the Yale Cancer Center Ruth McCorkle Oncology Advanced Practice Provider Award at the Cancer Center’s annual Conclave on Monday, January 13. The award is given annually to recognize the contributions of Advanced Practice Providers to oncology patient care.

Lenox is an advanced practice provider with the Smilow Cancer Hospital (SCH) Stem Cell Transplant Team. He was recognized for his commitment to patient-centered care and mentorship. Kim Slusser, MSN, R.N., CHPN, NEA-BC, Vice President of Patient Services at SCH and Vanna Dest, MSN, APRN, BC, AOCN, Senior Program Manager for Advanced Practice at SCH and winner of the award in 2017, presented Lenox with the award. “Raymond is an expert in his field and a true role model to others,” said Slusser. “His interactions with his colleagues and patients have had a positive impact on their lives.”

Ruth McCorkle, Ph.D., R.N., was known as the "Godmother of Oncology Nursing” for pioneering work in oncology nursing, symptom science, hospice and palliative care. She joined Yale Cancer Center in 1998 and focused her nursing career on psychosocial oncology and quality of life research.

A dedicated plaque will be displayed in Smilow Cancer Hospital listing all the Ruth McCorkle Advanced Practice Provider Award winners since its inception in 2012.
