Biography
Nathan Lawless is the Director External Innovation Global Computational Biology & Digital Sciences Department and is located at the research site Biberach, Germany. In this role, he is responsible for the development and maintenance of Computational Genomic & Bioinformatics relevant collaborative partnerships and business opportunities with academic, biotech companies, and governmental institutions globally. In addition to this role Nathan has supported genomics development initiatives aimed at enhancing the genomics data foundation and computational infrastructure of the department. Prior to this role Nathan led a computational biology team with responsibilities in pre-clinical research for CNS psychiatric diseases and Research Beyond Borders a department tasked with exploring emerging science and technologies.
Education and early career: Nathan received his M.Sc. Immunology & Global Health spending time at Egerton University in Kenya profiling antimicrobial resistance mechanisms of Aeromonas hydrophila in the rift valley. He holds a PhD in Bioinformatics & Immunology from Trinity College Dublin through a Walsh Scholarship and later worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist at The Pirbright Institute and Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute through a BBSRC responsive mode grant. During this time, he also served as a Postdoctoral fellow representative BBSRC BSC strategy panel advisory group. He later moved to the Pharmaceutical sector as part of the computational neuroscience team with Eli Lilly in the UK and then to Boehringer Ingelheim.
