Sarah Aitken, MBChB, PhD, assistant professor of pathology, has been named one of five recipients of the 2026 Pew-Stewart Scholars Cancer Research Award. Aitken will combine molecular biology, genomics, and image analysis to study how mutations arise and lead to cancer development and evolution.
Aitken is also a member of the Center of Molecular and Cellular Oncology (CMCO) at Yale Cancer Center and is a clinician scientist and pathologist specializing in diseases of the digestive system and in molecular pathology. She trained in Medicine (MBChB) at the University of Edinburgh, UK, with an intercalated BMedSci in Experimental Pathology and postgraduate MSc in Translational Medicine.
The Pew-Stewart Scholars Program for Cancer Research is a national initiative designed to support promising early career scientists whose research will accelerate discovery and advance progress to a cure for cancer. The program is funded by The Alexander and Margaret Stewart Trust and administered by Pew.
