Vera Hendrix, MD, FACS, is an assistant professor of surgery (breast surgical oncology) and cares for patients as part of the Center for Breast Cancer at Smilow Cancer Hospital in Guilford and Waterford, CT. She completed her fellowship in breast surgery at the University of Southern California and her residency in general surgery at Tulane University. She received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine where she was a George M. Kober and Franz E. Marschall Scholar.
Dr. Hendrix has advanced fellowship training in breast surgical oncology and a deep commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care. She is particularly passionate about multidisciplinary approaches to caring for patients to optimize outcomes and enhance patient experiences, and has specialty training in oncoplastics. She joins Yale from Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center where she was also Medical Director of Breast Surgery at AVALA Hospital. Dr. Hendrix was recently appointed to the Legislative Committee for the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) and helps to ensure key issues impacting breast surgeons and patients are brought to legislative and regulatory decision makers. She is an advocate for healthcare policies and raising awareness/access to high-quality cancer care.
