Congratulations to Leandra Jackson, who was awarded a 2017 Barry Goldwater Scholarship for excellence in science and math.Leandra, a student at the University of California, Irvine, is among 240 individuals selected from a pool of 1,286 applicants nominated by 470 colleges and universities.Nirisha Commodore, a junior at the University of the Virgin Islands, received an Honorable Mention in the competition.
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation was established in 1986 by Congress to provide scholarships to college sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.The Goldwater scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards for undergraduate STEM students.
