Hyunjae Kim Receives 2026 YBII Postdoctoral Funding

Hyunjae Kim, PhD, a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Biomedical Informatics & Data Science and an associate member of the Yale Biomedical Imaging Institute (YBII), has been awarded one year of support through the 2026 YBII Postdoctoral Funding Program. The award covers one year of his salary and provides additional support for training-related activities such as conference travel, publication fees, and software.

Kim's research focuses on developing foundation AI models that learn from and reason across multimodal medical data to advance clinical diagnosis and prognosis. His recent study, MedPMC, automatically converts complex biomedical research papers into millions of high-quality image-text examples for training these next-generation models. He is mentored by Qingyu Chen, PhD, assistant professor of biomedical informatics and data science, his primary mentor, and Xiaofeng Liu, PhD, assistant professor of radiology and biomedical imaging and of biomedical informatics and data science, his secondary mentor.
