DESCRIPTION:Speaker : Joseph Webster StaymanAssociate Professor in Biomedi
cal Engineering at Johns Hopkins University Bio : Dr. Stayman is an Assoc
iate Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. He
has been conducting research on x-ray and tomographic systems for over 25
years. He leads research programs in medical imaging systems modeling\,
design\, optimization\, and evaluation. His interests include diagnostic
and interventional imaging and the integration of patient-\, task-\, and
device-specific information into imaging devices and workflows\; as well
as the development of sophisticated image reconstruction algorithms and a
cquisition strategies for high-performance on low-fidelity or sparse data
. Abstract : X-ray computed tomography is one of pillars of diagnostic an
d interventional imaging. However\, in many ways\, clinical systems have
not significantly changed over the past few decades. This talk will prese
nt several approaches that permit additional flexibility and adaptation i
n data acquisition to deliver improved performance and/or capabilities. T
hese approaches combine hardware modifications and advanced modeling and
data processing. Topics include fluence-field modulation for patient- and
task-specific scans\, noncircular CT geometries\, novel filtration metho
ds for spectral imaging\, and the modeling and reconstruction methods tha
 t enable these non-standard acquisition techniques.\n\nSpeaker:\nJoseph W
