4c. Cropping Image Size

Methods used to Crop an Image using the Image Processing Utility.

This procedue to remove the unused space outside the brain will decrease the image size and speed up registration time.

  1. Choose (File | Load )
  2. Choose [filename]_stripped_stripped.hdr and click Open
  3. Choose (Image Processing | Reorient/Crop)
  4. Choose values to crop images without removing any brain. To do this, click in front and in back of the brain in the sagittal view while making sure there is no image in the coronal view. Then click on the bottom and on the top of the brain in the sagittal view while making sure there is no image in the axial view.
  5. Observe the Y Coordinate Values as you click in front and in back of the brain. Observe the Z Coordinate Values as you click on the bottom and top of the brain.
  6. Enter the Y Coordinate Values into y range values of the Image Processing Utility window. Enter the Z Coordinate Values into the z range values of the Image Processing Utility window.
  7. Click Crop on the Image Processing Utility window.
  8. Click Copy Results to Image on the Image Processing Utility window.
  9. In the Brainsegment window click (File | Save)
  10. Save the file as [filename]_stripped.hdr
  11. The program will prompt you if you want to overwrite your original [filename]_stripped.hdr file click Yes.
