Research Interests

In general, my research interest involves metabolism in healthy and pathological conditions. In vivo Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) plays a key role in this physiological orientated research and is used in human studies as well as in rodent studies. Thus far I have studied skeletal muscle mitochondrial function in type 2 diabetes using 1H and 31P MRS, work which was predominantly carried out in the Biomedical NMR lab of Prof. Klaas Nicolay at the Eindhoven University of Technology. After recently moving to the Yale Magnetic Resonance Research Center and joining Prof. Douglas Rothman as a postdoc, my research area broadened, now also including in vivo 13C MRS and the infusion of 13C labeled substrates to study alterations in brain metabolism in relation to type 1 diabetes.
