CAPES - Yale Graduate Scholars Program

Summary

Yale University and the BBS Program are very excited about a brand new partnership with Brazil and the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES). The capes-Yale Graduate Scholars Program trains the most promising Brazilian students and prepares them to become international leaders in academia and industry. Students are jointly funded by capes and Yale and are eligible to join any BBS Track. They participate in all regular BBS academic activities and additionally participate in specialized professional development programs exclusively for them. Yale has helped to train Brazilian leaders for almost 200 years and looks forward to training a new generation of scientists and scholars.

Eligibility & Nomination Process

Students who will have completed either a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree prior to matriculating at Yale are eligible for nomination. The application process requires three steps:

1. Students must first apply to the CAPES portal to express interest in the CAPES-Yale Program. CAPES will release a Call for Applications approximately in August each year.

2. Applications are reviewed by a committee of Brazilian scientists, and this committee in turn nominates a subset of students for consideration by Yale.

Admissions Process

Students nominated by CAPES must submit a regular Yale Graduate School application to BBS via the processes described elsewhere on this website. Students should apply to the BBS Track which best matches their scientific interests and must submit their applications by December 1. BBS faculty will then travel to Brazil to interview each applicant in person. Final admissions decisions will be sent to applicants from the Dean of the Yale Graduate School.

Funding

Students who accept an offer of admission to Yale will be instructed by CAPES to provide information to accept a scholarship from CAPES. Students will then receive their BBS stipend directly from CAPES during their first three years of study at Yale. During this period, CAPES will provide Yale with funds to cover the cost of student health insurance; and Yale will pay the cost of tuition. Yale will provide the stipend and pay the health insurance and tuition fees in years four and beyond.
