Olfson Awarded NIH Grant to Study Genetics of Childhood Anxiety

    1 Minute Read

Emily Olfson, MD, PhD, assistant professor in the Child Study Center, has received a five-year R01 grant from the National Institute of Mental Health for her project "Parent-Child Trio Study of Pediatric Anxiety Disorders." Anxiety disorders are among the most common psychiatric conditions of childhood, and although genetics play a major role, few risk genes have been identified. Olfson and her team—Thomas Fernandez, MD; Wendy Silverman, PhD; and Eli Lebowitz, PhD, of the Child Study Center—will establish the first large-scale DNA sequencing study of pediatric anxiety disorders. The findings could point to new treatment targets and more personalized care for children with anxiety.
