Jaspreet Loyal, MD, MS, has been named chief of pediatric hospital medicine for Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital effective October 1, 2020. Dr. Loyal is a pediatric hospitalist and the medical director for inpatient pediatrics at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital and an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine.

Dr. Loyal received her undergraduate degree from St. Catherine’s University in Minnesota, her graduate degree in epidemiology at Stanford University in California and her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. She was a resident and chief resident in pediatrics at Weill Cornell-New York Presbyterian prior to joining Yale.

From 2012 to 2017, Dr. Loyal served as the medical director for the Well Newborn Unit at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. In 2017, she became the medical director for the inpatient pediatric units in the children’s hospital where she provides clinical oversight, leads the development, implementation and monitoring of programmatic initiatives including quality and safety, the safe flow of patients and patient experience. In 2016, Dr. Loyal joined the Yale pediatric residency leadership team as an associate program director.

In 2019, she received the Mae Gailani Junior Faculty Award, honoring that individual who personifies the remarkable spirit of Mae Gailani, MD, an exceptional neonatologist, young investigator, teacher and citizen in the Department of Pediatrics. And for the current academic year, she was nominated and accepted to the Carol Emmott National 14-month fellowship program “for exceptional women leaders in health to accelerate their careers and make a lasting impact,” as one of 20 national fellows.

In her new role, Dr. Loyal will oversee all elements of our hospital medicine programs. She will focus her efforts on building the research activities of the section, standardizing hospital care and patient experience for children at all system hospitals, developing new educational programs and promoting efforts in diversity, inclusion and equity. Dr. Loyal will continue in her role as medical director for inpatient pediatrics at YNHCH.

Department of Pediatrics leadership thanks Matthew Grossman, MD, for his exceptional service as interim chief of hospital medicine for the past two years. This new section has grown tremendously under his leadership and commitment. Dr. Loyal will work with Dr. Grossman in the coming weeks to transition leadership of the section.
