Shanique Alabi is awarded the 2018 HHMI Gilliam Fellowship

Shanique Alabi has been awarded the 2018 Gilliam Fellowship. The goal of HHMI’s Gilliam Fellowships for Advanced Study program is to ensure that a diverse and highly trained workforce is prepared to assume leadership roles in science, including college and university faculty who have the responsibility to develop the next generation of scientists. Shanique is a rising 4^th year pharmacology graduate student in the Crews lab. Her studies involve understanding the consequences and mechanism of PROTAC induced degradation of oncogenic kinases in the MAPK pathway. In addition, she is interested in targeting traditionally “undruggable” proteins such as pseudokinases using PROTAC technology. Outside of the lab, she is a graduate student fellow in the Office of Graduate Student Development and Diversity (OGSDD) where she has organized workshops and activities to increase recruitment and retention in the graduate school. She is currently the graduate student coordinator for the NIH Post Research Education Program (PREP) here at Yale.
