THE EFFECT that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had on the medical community is incalculable. The pandemic has presented new challenges daily, not only medical, but economic, social, and psychological. As the understanding of this novel disease evolves, new insights into medical management and both short- and long-term repercussions continue to be discovered. The medical sequelae are not limited to those who have contracted the COVID-19 virus; those living in the new world of a global pandemic have been affected in surprising ways. In this E-Challenge, the authors present a case of an unanticipated medical consequence in the setting of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introductory orientation fo new CA1 Residents
The Anesthesia department hosted an Introductory Orientation for the new CA1 residents. The orientation, titled Procedural Training for Central Venous Line Placement This Introductory Orientation day focused on getting CA1 residents comfortable with basic tasks such as IV, A-line, Airway intubations and Central line placements This overview helps residents hit the OR and facilitates their performance in the high-stress environment of the operating rooms.
White Coats for Black Lives
Our department was represented at Saturday’s White Coats for Black Lives demonstration. Around 300 doctors took a knee in front of the Yale School of Medicine to demonstrate their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. Another 280 tuned in via Zoom to show support. Yale Researchers Develop Multi-Patient Ventilators
Two research teams at Yale are trying something different. The lab of Laura Niklason, MD, PhD, and the Coalition for Health Innovation in Medical Emergencies (CHIME), a multidisciplinary group that came together in March to address innovations related to COVID-19, are developing ways to allow a ventilator to treat multiple patients at a time.
