Ambulatory Anesthesiology

alt text

The section of Ambulatory Anesthesiology provides care to patients having surgery or procedures who are discharged home the same day. Advances in surgical and anesthetic techniques have led to a continually increasing number of ambulatory cases. Our anesthetic management is designed to help our patients return to their baseline health and functional status as rapidly as possible. This includes an emphasis on effective pain management, postoperative nausea and vomiting prevention, and multidisciplinary teamwork for compassionate and efficient care.

There is an ambulatory surgery pavilion within Yale-New Haven Hospital comprised of 10 operating rooms with a dedicated Express Admission Service for efficient preoperative preparation and evaluation of patients. The pavilion allows for the care of healthy as well as more medically complex patients for ambulatory surgery as the resources of YNHH are all available. The Ambulatory Anesthesiology Section also provides care for digestive health, interventional pulmonology, and reproductive endocrinology procedures, electroconvulsive therapy, as well as anesthesia services for 6 operating rooms at the Shoreline Surgery Center.

Our anesthesiologists, along with residents and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) strive for the utmost safety and satisfaction for our ambulatory patients.
