Richard Moscarelli, MD, Lauded as a Champion for Medical Education
“He is kind of a rock star.” This is how Assistant Professor Courtney Fankhanel, MMSc, PA-C, describes Richard Moscarelli, MD, a clinical assistant professor and member of a strong cadre of voluntary faculty in the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences. Moscarelli is a physician with the Greater New Haven OB/GYN practice, who has precepted YSM Physician Associate (PA) students in their OB/GYN rotation for the past decade.

Physician Associate Class of 2024 Receives White Coats and Advice

On August 26, close to 140 family members, friends, and alumni joined the ceremony virtually.
YSM Continuing Medical Education Joins Office of Medical Education
On July 1, Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Continuing Medical Education (CME) joined the YSM Office of Medical Education. CME most recently had been part of Yale Medicine. Janet Hafler, EdD, who has been appointed associate dean for teaching and learning, will lead the CME office.
The Human Touch in Teaching
During Capstone, the final course of the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) MD curriculum, students were asked to name the faculty member who had the biggest impact on them. When the results were displayed in a Word Cloud, Joseph DeMayo, MD, MPH, was one of the names appearing in a large font, reflecting that multiple students had chosen him. DeMayo is a retired geriatrician who has taught in the Clinical Skills (CS) and Medical Coach Experience (MCE) courses as volunteer faculty for almost ten years.
YSM Class of ’77 Celebrates Opening of New Mothers’ Room
In 2019, back for a Yale event, several members of the medical school's Class of 1977 discovered that a room at the school designated for nursing mothers was in "hideous" condition. They decided to do something about it, and this month they saw the marvelous results.

These are a small sample of the topics discussed in the MD Class of 2022 Capstone course, which ran from March 14 through April 1, and is a graduation requirement. The variety of subjects in the experiential course reflects its holistic approach, intended as a mix of practical clinical information students should know before starting their residencies, life skills, philosophical discussions about the practice of medicine, and reconnecting students before graduation.
