Nensi Ruzgar

Nensi is a medical student at Yale School of Medicine. Born in Istanbul, Turkey, and raised in Toronto, Canada, she graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Health Sciences. Her prior research at McMaster and Johns Hopkins Universities focused on the transcriptomic and epigenetic signatures of pluripotent stem cells, and the induction of naive pluripotency. At Yale, Nensi is currently completing her MHS degree under the co-mentorship of Drs. Doruk Ozgediz and Emily Christison-Lagay, working on the assessment of research capacity and development of a tumor biobank in Uganda. She also serves as a Solomon Center Research Fellow at the Yale Law School, where she is studying the barriers to pediatric surgical care access for refugee families. Outside of research, Nensi chairs the international group, Gender Equity Initiative in Global Surgery, and has served on the Title IX Graduate Advisory Committee as well as the Dean's Advisory Council at Yale. In her free time, she can be found enjoying the outdoors, making music, exploring art galleries, or watching Allblacks’ games!
