Nancy J. Brown, MD, Jean and David W. Wallace Dean of Yale School of Medicine and C.N.H. Long Professor of Internal Medicine, and Gerald I. Shulman, MD, George R. Cowgill Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology) and professor of cellular and molecular physiology, are the newest members of the Yale faculty inducted as Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP).
Founded in 1518 by a Royal Charter from King Henry VIII, RCP is the oldest medical college in England, often playing a pivotal role in raising standards and shaping public health. It draws on its members' knowledge and expertise to develop evidence-based policy in key areas of health care. It champions medical professionalism and leadership, promotes person-centered care, and drives improvements in clinical practice. RCP draws its membership from more than 80 countries around the world.
Invitations to become an RCP fellow are based on endorsements by fellow physicians both locally and nationally, and in recognition of important contributions to the medical profession. Criteria include advancement of research and education in the fellow's medical specialty.
