Alumni Bookshelf: Frederic Deleyiannis, MD '92

Frederic Deleyiannis, MD ’92 is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with over 25 years of experience in some of the most complex and transformative areas of surgery. A graduate of Yale University School of Medicine, he is internationally recognized for his expertise in microvascular reconstruction, head and neck surgery, and pediatric facial reconstruction.

Dr. Deleyiannis has held academic and clinical leadership roles, including Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Colorado and Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has been consistently recognized among America’s Top Doctors and Best Plastic Surgeons by Castle Connolly and Newsweek.

His new book, Reflections of a Microvascular Plastic Surgeon: Reconstructing Shattered Lives, offers a rare glimpse into the technical and emotional dimensions of reconstructive surgery, blending patient stories with surgical innovation and historical insight.

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Deleyiannis is deeply committed to global health. For over two decades, he has led annual surgical missions to Guatemala, providing life-changing care to children with cleft lip, palate, and ear deformities. He also serves on the board of the John Lester Foundation for Pediatric Facial Reconstruction, supporting underserved patients worldwide.
