COVID-19 site provides a compendium of clinical and research resources for ending the pandemic

In late March, the school launched a comprehensive new website to provide clinical updates, data resources, pre-prints, connections with investigators, access to clinical protocols, and other resources in the fight against COVID-19. The website, Research, Clinical & Data Driven Responses to COVID-19, seeks to facilitate collaboration at Yale and across the world by communicating research progress and patient care initiatives.

A variety of content was available on the site in early April:

  • In the area of clinical diagnostics and therapeutics, some Yale clinicians and researchers are studying effective defenses that protect the airway from respiratory viruses while others are focusing on developing new diagnostic tests for rapid detection and quantitation of viruses. One group is developing AI-based models to predict severity of disease and outcomes in people who acquire COVID-19.
  • The Yale COVID-19 Global Cases Dashboard lists current total numbers of reported cases, recoveries, and deaths associated with COVID-19 by country and around the globe. It also graphs the global accumulation of both cases and deaths over time. The map display uses dots of varied sizes at the centers of geographical areas to depict the number of cumulative cases currently reported within each area; statistics for each area can also be presented by clicking on its dot.
  • The Coalition for Health Innovation in Medical Emergencies (CHIME)—a group that includes experts in engineering, public health, nursing, medicine, and design—has been rapidly designing, evaluating, and testing ideas in several key areas: face masks, face shields, ventilation, and sterilization.
  • Engineers at the university are testing new masks and filters to support the healthcare system. They are also developing a new portable COVID-19 assay that can both detect infection and monitor therapeutics. In addition, they are improving microscopy detection techniques for virus particles and monitoring sewage samples in a local wastewater treatment plant.
