As the lead volunteer for the Alumni Fund, Nazem supports about 75 volunteer class agents—representatives of the entire living population of Yale School of Medicine (YSM) alumni—in their efforts to keep their classmates connected to the school and encourage annual contributions to the Fund.

On Sunday, August 4th, in an historic first appearance by a YSM Dean, Nancy J. Brown, MD, welcomed over 85 alumni & guests at the National Medical Association (NMA) Annual Convention & Scientific Assembly in New York City.

Throughout his career, Kelvin A. Baggett, MD, MPH, MBA, has been applying his background and training to advance his mission of “making better care and services available to as many people as possible.” The broad training has equipped him to evaluate challenges in health care from multiple perspectives and facilitate solutions.

Building on the strong foundation and momentum already established at the Association of Yale Alumni in Medicine (AYAM), Paul Leong, MD ’99, is refining his vision for his term as president of the organization. He will take the helm on August 1, 2024, after having served as AYAM’s vice president for the past three years. He succeeds J. McLeod (“Mac”) Griffiss, MD ’66.

Deepak Rao, MD'10 PhD'09 and Jaehuk Choi, MD'06 PhD'06 collaborated on groundbreaking research published last week in Nature on the underlying mechanisms of lupus and the potential for novel therapies to treat the autoimmune disease. The Washington Post article "What causes lupus? A new study reveals potential treatment options." details their findings and implications for patients suffering with lupus.

The June 2024 issue of the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine (YJBM), on Chronic Disease, was published on PubMed Central (PMC) on June 28. This focus issue features articles on the global burden of long-term health challenges.

More than 200 alumni from class years ending in 4s and 9s and their guests came from as far away as Washington state to reconnect with classmates, faculty, and friends during Reunion Weekend from May 31- June 1. Alumni returned to campus to celebrate their milestone reunions while creating new memories. Thank you to those of you who joined us!
