Clinical Core

Led by Drs. Christopher H. van Dyck, MD and Adam Mecca, MD, the Clinical Core aims to perform research diagnostic evaluations for a large clinical population. Participants are followed longitudinally to provide well-characterized subjects for research projects conducted by ADRC investigators and collaborators. The Core also makes data available to the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC) for national studies. The Core focuses on cell biology, integration of translational neuroscience, and systematic storage of biospecimens for current and future biomarker studies. Thus, the Core supplies biorepositories for whole blood (for DNA), serum, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PMCs) for the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

The Clinical Core is currently seeking participants with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, as well as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). The Core is also enrolling cognitively normal individuals with and without first-degree family history of Alzheimer’s disease.

The staff of the Clinical Core meets weekly to review clinical cases and to discuss other Core issues.
