Dr. Xu’s research interests focus on the experimental identification of genes and genetic machinery of complex traits involved in tree growth, development and adaptation to changing environments. He is alert and familiar with frontier experimental techniques of molecular biology and genetics, including DNA microarray, next-generation sequencing, transgene technology, etc. Dr. Xu has applied these techniques and methods to address the molecular mechanism underlying adventitious root formation. His current project involves genome-wide association studies of complex agronomic traits in poplar using next-generation sequencing technology, for ultimately elucidating the genetic control network of complex biology.
