Role at Yale
Mr. Atherton offers fifteen years' experience in the fields of policy and research development with a particular focus on local government, community regeneration and public health research. His work as a policy adviser at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in London and to the Scottish Executive in Edinburgh focused on tackling the multiple causes of disadvantage in the UK's urban neighborhoods. Before this, Jon specialized in developing legislation for democratic renewal, the modernization of rural towns and advising Pan-European institutions on local self-government. At Yale, Jon managed the development of new research and new researchers in the field of HIV prevention, including through pilot funding programs, peer review, and NIH training programs. He currently has oversight for strategy, sustainability and communications at the Community Alliance for Research & Engagement (CARE) within Yale School of Public Health, and is Administrative Director for Dr. Trace Kershaw's Pre- and Post-Doctoral Fellowship at CIRA.
