TB-AIDS Clinical Training and Research Unit, Russia: Robert Heimer (PI)

This project was a collaboration between Yale, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and Wadsworth Center, the research-intensive public health laboratory of the New York State Department of Health. A separate, parallel award was made to the Biomedical Center in St. Petersburg, Russia. The specific aims of this project were: 1) to increase the capacity to undertake clinical, operational, and health services research related to TB and AIDS prevention and treatment in St. Petersburg; 2) to improve the academic training and research infrastructure in St. Petersburg through the establishment of a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional TB-AIDS Clinical Training and Research Unit (TACTARU); and 3) to build an infrastructure that allows TACTARU to serve as a national center for expanding research capacity in responding to the TB and AIDS epidemics.
