Professional Training Opportunities

Types of Trainings

OPHP collaborates with partners to provide a variety of trainings to meet the needs of the public health workforce. Customized programs can also be developed to meet the unique needs of organizations on a contractual basis.  Currently we are providing trainings in the following categories: 

  • Healthy Homes
  • Performance Management and Quality Improvement
  • Biostatistics

Our programs are available through TRAIN, the national learning management system supported by the Public Health Foundation. OPHP supports a variety of training formats, contingent on the topic area and funding, including:

  • Distance Learning – Webinars (live and recorded) and self-paced online courses
  • Face to Face (Live) Learning – Seminars, courses, workshops and conferences and exercises
  • Hybrid Learning – Combination of distance learning and live formats.
  • Train-the trainer programs

Continuing Education

After completion of all course requirements, (completion of course and evaluation) each participant is able to print a certificate of attendance from TRAIN. This certificate may be used to apply for continuing education contact hours or recertification credits. Below is a listing of the organizational credentialing we provide credits for:

CPH Recertification credits (category 1)

  • All courses are pre-approved
  • Use the certificate of attendance to apply for credits on your own

NEHA and other public health professional contact hours

  • Courses are approved where indicated
  • Use the certificate of attendance to apply for credits on your own

CHES Contact Hours (category 1)

  • Courses are approved where indicated
  • To apply for CHES contact hours:
    • You need to 1) have viewed the program in its entirety and 2) have taken the program evaluation.
  • IMPORTANT: Request for CHES credits must be made within ten (10) business days after the course completion.
  • CHES certificates will be provided via email for your contact hours. 

CHES Payment and Address

  • The cost is $3 per credit hour and the check must be made out to “SCSU Dept of Public Health” with your CHES # written in the check memo.

In order to access or register for any of the courses offered on TRAIN, you must first create a free account. Just click on the “create account” link on the left hand side of the TRAIN homepage. Your account is portable and can be used throughout your public health career.
