Overview of Services
Programs and services available through the YSPH Office of Career Services include:
Individual Career Counseling
The Office of Career Services staff is available to work with each student to develop career plans and job search strategies. We can help you clarify your goals, explore career options available with your degree, and map out a plan of action for identifying and securing internships and jobs. We also assist you in evaluating and negotiating your offers. Students are encouraged to begin working with Career Services early on to create a professional and academic plan to develop the skills and experiences needed for your future career.
Job and internship postings are forwarded to the career office from a wide range of domestic and international employers. Students and alumni can access internship and full-time job openings via the YSPH web-based recruiting system. Search features enable you to view job postings that match your individual qualifications and interests.
Throughout the year, organizations interested in Yale students visit campus to present information sessions and conduct interviews for both full-time and internship positions. These on-campus visits allow students to connect face-to-face with employers interested in the skills of public health students. In addition to campus visits, several employers connect with students via video conferencing.
Career Trips – Washington, DC & New York
In order to acquaint students with the wide array of opportunities across sectors in the public health field, the Career Office organizes career trips to Washington, DC (spring) and New York City (fall). A highlight of the trips is a networking reception for students, alumni, and employers. The trips are great ways to learn first-hand about the day-to-day operations of organizations at the forefront of public health research, advocacy, and practice by affording participants the opportunity to speak to practitioners in the field, many of whom are Yale alumni.
Alumni are one of the best resources for assistance with “real-world” career information, leads to internships and jobs, and mentoring advice. Many alumni return to New Haven to share their expertise with current students. Others assist by funding unpaid internships, and informing YSPH of internship and job opportunities within their organizations.
Programs & Workshops
Career Services provides professional development programs aimed at exploring careers and developing skills students can use in their internship/job search and throughout their careers. These include resume and cover letter writing, discussions with YSPH alumni, employer information sessions, networking and interviewing workshops, as well as sessions on public speaking and presentation skills.
Campus Connections/Career Fairs
The YSPH Career Office works collaboratively with many other Yale career offices to bring you relevant and high quality event programming. Through collaborations with FES, Yale College, SOM, and the Graduate School, students can participate in Federal Career Month, Career Fairs targeted at the private sector and non-profits, as well as other recruitment events.
