Matthew Spitzer ’90 BA
Family Physician and Past President, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières - USA
After earning his medical degree at Cornell, Dr. Spitzer trained at San Francisco General Hospital and its Refugee Medical Clinic, and has practiced at St. Anthony Free Clinic, San Quentin State Prison, and Columbia P&S among others. In the field with MSF, he worked in Khampa Tibet, Sierra Leone, and Cambodia, and served as the president of the US section for 4 years. He taught at UC-Berkeley, studied tropical medicine and medical acupuncture, and is a founding member of Coumbia's Narrative Health and Social Justice seminar. Currently he is part of Mt. Sinai's initiative for outpatient care in downtown Brooklyn, NY.
