Tips on becoming the number one provider in the region

The prerequisites for a successful clinical practice are many, but two stand out as crucial areas of improvement for YMG physicians:

  1. Make your referring physicians happy
  2. Make your patients happy

The good news is that there are only two goals, and they apply to both audiences:

  1. Be accessible
  2. Build rapport

Although it is difficult to compete with Yale when it comes to training credentials and technical expertise, it is the “personal touch” that differentiate an excellent practice from a simply good practice.

Primary care physicians want to refer to specialists who are not only good at what they do but will engage with their patients and promptly report back to the primary caregiver. 

Also be personable and easy to communicate with. Friendliness and sensitivity is just as important in shaping patients’ overall experience of medical care as is the doctor’s skill and credentials.
