Responsibilities include identifying and minimizing risk exposures
Joshua A. Copel, MD, has been appointed medical director of risk management for Yale Medical Group (YMG). This new position was created to identify and minimize risk exposures throughout YMG’s clinical and administrative practices.
Dr. Copel is a professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences and of Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, and vice chair of obstetrics. He is a specialist in maternal and fetal medicine, and a national authority in ultrasonography.In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Copel has served as medical director of Medical Billing Compliance, and as a member of the YMG Practice Standards Committee.
With his new risk management position, he will assist in efforts to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and solutions for YMG. He will participate in areas such as the Medical Center Insurance Company, which provides professional liability insurance; addressing patient complaints; ambulatory peer review and the development of an effective disclosure program along with Yale-New Haven Hospital Risk Management. Dr. Copel will work closely with Angela Oren, YMG’s senior deputy HIPAA privacy officer and risk management administrator.
