YCCI Core Intensive Projects Partnering with International Community Based Organizations

The groundbreaking discoveries of Yale researchers including Richard Lifton, Murat Gunel, and Arya Mani about the genetics of cardiovascular, renal, and central nervous system diseases, respectively, used the state-of-the-art technology cores and resources provided by YCCI, and also relied on partnerships with community-based organizations in Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and other countries. Yale’s ongoing partnership with Church of Scotland Hospital at Tugela Ferry in South Africa, which focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of co-infection with HIV and TB, led to the discovery by Yale researchers of extensively resistant TB. The new affiliation between Yale and University College London provides unique opportunities to examine the effects of different health care systems, health care delivery policies, and social factors on disease incidence and on the efficacy of interventions to prevent or treat chronic diseases.
