What is the purpose of this research?
The purpose of this study is to evaluate a medication through to influence the effects of stress on smoking.
Who can participate?
Adult men and women who smoke cigarettes every day and are interested in quitting smoking.
Description of Trial:
Following an in-person screening appointment and a physical exam, to determine eligibility for the study, participants will be randomly assigned to receive medication or placebo (sugar pill). Participants will take the medication for 3 weeks and then be asked to attend 2 laboratory sessions. Participants will then be enrolled in a 4-week supported quit smoking attempt during which they will continue to take the same study medication and will receive weekly behavioral counseling and support for quitting. Participants will be compensated for their time and for completing research
