Progesterone for Postpartum Cocaine Relapse


What is the purpose of this trial?

Yale University is offering free, confidential counseling and study medication for new mothers who are trying to stay clean and prevent relapse.  Participation is voluntary and includes 12 weeks of study medication and therapy with specialists who can help.

Who can participate?

Gender Eligible: Female
Women who are pregnant or newly delivered (up to 6 weeks postpartum) who are currently using or have used cocaine in the 6 months prior to conception


Description of Trial:

Treatment lasts 12 weeks and is supplemented by 4-6 Cognitive Behavioral Therapy sessions along with medication administration. Oral micronized progesterone is what we are using in the hopes that the women taking the progesterone as opposed to the placebo will have less risk of relapse in the 3 months postpartum and an increased likelihood of bonding with their infant.

Participation is voluntary and confidential, with participants earning up to $300 for participating.
