Clinical Trials Listing

What You Will Learn

  • How to pull information from the clinical trials system
  • How to use this information to create an organized listing of clinical trials to your page

Quick Steps

  1. Create Clinical Trial Listing component; enter the correct Organization ID and Faculty Directory Link component.
  2. Insert Clinical Trial Listing component onto page as "Clinical Trial Listing" template
  3. Create another page and insert Clinical Trial Listing component as "Clinical Trial" template

Rather than adding new clinical trials to your site adhoc, using the Clinical Trials component will pull in information from the Clinical Trials System, a function much like the News Listing and PubMed Feed.

Like Faculty Profile and News Listing pages, the Clinical Trials Listing requires you to build multiple components and pages. Follow these instructions closely.

  1. Create a new component and select "Link" from the schema menu. This component will be used to generate a trial detail page and link to faculty profiles.
    • Name: To help indicate that this is your link component, insert a title like "Clinical Trials Link."
    • Componentlink: Click on the yellow folder with the magnifying glass and select a Faculty Directory component that is in use on a profile page of the site. If there are no faculty listings on the site, you will need to create one
    • Save & Close.
  2. With your Link component made, create another component and select the "Clinical Trial Listing" schema.
    • Name: Provide a name that clearly indicates what the component is, e.g. "Active Cancer Trials Listing"
    • Title: This is the title that will display above the Clinical Trial table.
    • Filters: Choose one of the following filters to limit the trials that display:
      • Investigator Filter: Filters trials based on trial investigator's ID (the "UserID" that appears at the top of an individual's profile page in http://profile.yale.edu).
      • Category Filter: Filters based on trial categories. Please refer to the table.
      • OrgID Filter: Filters based on the Organization's ID from the Profile System and will return all trials tagged with that organization.
      • Healthy Volunteers: If this box is checked, all trials in the system which are accepting healthy volunteers will display.
    • Number of items to display in widget: If you opt to add a widget on your page using this very same component, this field specifies the number of trials to show in the widget.
    • trialDisplayLink: Click on the yellow folder with the magnifying glass. Select the Link component you created above.
    • Save & Close once finished.
  3. With your components created, go into the Root Folder of your publication. For this example we will assume we .
  4. Now you will create the first of two new pages. Start with Listing page.
    • General Tab
      • Name: ###_Clinical Trials (Enter desired navigation code in place of ###)
      • File Name: Index
      • Page Template and Metadata Schema: Leave as is.
    • Component Presentations Tab
      • Insert the Clinical Trials Listing component you just created in step 2 and select "Clinical Trials Listing" from the Component Template menu.
      • Save & Close.
  5. In the same Structure Group, you are going to create a "Trial View" page which will display information for individual trials when clicked from the listing.
    • General Tab
      • Name: Trial View (NO NUMBERS as this page should not appear in navigation)
      • File Name: trial
      • Page Template and Metadata Schema: Leave as is.
    • Component Presentations Tab
      • Insert the Link component created in step 2 and select the "Clinical Trial" component template.
      • Insert the same Link component on the page a second time using the "Clinical Trial Side" component template. Note: by default, an image which has been tagged as related to one or more of the categories applied to each trial appears in the side column along with investigator and contact information. If you would prefer not to have an image display, choose the "Clinical Trial Side (no image)" template instead of "Clinical Trial Side".
      • Save & Close.
  6. Publish your Trial View page, then your Listing page.

Clinical Trials Widget

If you want to create a widget that is displayed on the left column of a page, insert the Clinical Trials Listing component created in step 2 on a page using the "Clinical Trial Widget" template instead.
