External Websites

  1. Go to your Root folder. Locate the page that has the component you need to edit. Open the component.
  2. Locate the text and/or create text that will be used as the "link" to the website.
  3. Highlight this text and click the "Hyperlink" button in the Format tab.
  4. In the "Type" field, select the "http://" option.
  5. In the "URL" field, insert the address of the external website.
    • Do not remove the "http://" that has already been included unless the address is a "https://". Tridion will then default to "Other" from the Type menu.
  6. If desired, enter Title text for the link. This is the text that appears in a small box when a visitor to your site mouses over the link.
  7. The "Target" field should remain "Default." Click "OK."
  8. Save & Close your component, then publish your page. Make sure to test your page once publish to ensure that the text is hyperlinking to your chosen website.

Pages within your own Site

  1. As a rule, you should avoid hyperlinking to pages within your own site through using a website address. Instead, you will link to a component.
  2. Go to your Root folder. Locate the page that has the component you need to edit. Open the component.
  3. Locate the text and/or create text that will be used as the "link" to the page you want to direct visitors to.
  4. Highlight this text and click the "Hyperlink" button in the Format tab.
  5. In the "Type" field, select "component." Then click on the yellow folder with the magnifying glass. Tridion will take you to your Building Blocks folder.
  6. Select a component from the page to which you want to direct visitors. Typically, you want to pick a content component.
  7. After choosing a component, the name of the component will automatically appear in the Title field. You can leave this text as is, delete it, or enter your own title text for the link.
  8. Click "OK."
  9. Save & Close your component, then publish your page. Make sure to test your page once publish to ensure that the text is hyperlinking to your chosen page within your site.

E-mail Addresses

  1. Go to your Root folder. Locate the page that has the component you need to edit. Open the component.
  2. Locate the e-mail address text and/or create the e-mail address text that you want to use as the "link."
  3. Highlight this text and click the "Hyperlink" button in the Format tab.
  4. In the "Type" field, select "mailto:"
  5. In the "URL" field after the "mailto:", enter the individual's e-mail address. Click "OK." Repeat for each e-mail address you want to hyperlink.
  6. Save & Close your component, then publish your page. Make sure to test your page once publish to ensure that the text is hyperlinking to the chosen e-mail address(es).
