Why Yale Urology
At Yale Urology, we have expertise in diagnosis and management of Upper Tract Urothelial Cancer, a relatively rare cancer of urinary collecting system and ureter. There are a broad range of treatment options, including medicine and surgery. Our team has particular expertise in minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of upper tract tumors using small cameras and other devices including the Holmium laser. Our surgeons perform laparoscopic, robotic and open surgery including nephroureterectomy (removal of the kidney and ureter) as well as kidney-sparing treatments such as ureterectomy and reconstruction. Our surgeons and medical oncologists collaborate to offer our patients an integrated approach to treating patients with chemotherapy and surgery, with the goal of providing our patients with the best possible outcomes.
Yale Urology surgeons are at the forefront of cancer research, driving the search for new treatments and cures and staying current on the most advanced and effective techniques. We continually integrate the latest in science-based medicine and innovative approaches into our practice to offer patients safer and more effective treatments, including neoadjuvant chemotherapy, kidney-sparing surgery including endoscopic (incisionless) treatments when appropriate, and robotic surgery. For patients with metastatic disease, our medical oncology team has access to standard systemic therapy as well as clinical trials with novel drugs.
