The Childcare Working Group was established to address the need for more childcare, extended hours and affordability. A SWIM survey conducted in 2008 found that quality and available childcare is a necessary element in the recruitment of faculty to Yale. It further found that current childcare is insufficient, the climate for working parents at Yale can be improved by enhancing childcare options and availability, and parents need more support in their effort to balance academic demands with their parenting responsibilities.
- Increase available space for childcare
- Include childcare facilities in all new buildings at Yale
- Provide subsidized childcare for parents in need
