Peripheral Leg Bypass

At Yale Vascular Surgery, our nationally and internationally renowned surgeons are highly skilled at performing even the most advanced surgical techniques for both common and complex vascular conditions.

Arteries on the leg can become blocked when plaque builds up on the inner lining of the wall. Extensive aortic blockages may require bypass surgery to reroute the blood supply around the blocked area of an artery in the leg.

In bypass surgery, a Y-shaped tube made of synthetic fabric, called a graft, is attached to the artery above the blockage to create the detour.
