Benign Tumors and Chronic Infections of the Lung

At Yale Thoracic Surgery, our surgeons offer their expertise in treatment and management of benign conditions of the lung. Not all masses or nodules within the lung are necessarily cancerous. There are multiple causes of these benign tumors or chronic infections and, as such, patients can present with multiple symptoms or no symptoms. While some benign tumors or chronic infections require surgery to remove them (sometimes also to rule out a cancer), not all benign tumors or chronic infections do.

Our nationally and internationally renowned thoracic surgeons work as part of a multidisciplinary team with Yale Thoracic Oncology surgeons and specialists, who are also nationally and internationally renowned for their expertise with all lung tumors. The thoracic surgery practice encompasses all aspects of your total lung health including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. As faculty of the Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery, our surgeons are continually redefining standards of care through their comprehensive skill, innovative procedures, ongoing research, and the application of evidence-based medicine.

Our surgeons are highly skilled at performing even the most advanced surgical techniques for both common and complex conditions. At Yale Thoracic Surgery, we know that the surgical process can feel intimidating. Our surgeons will walk you through the process, step by step, so that you understand the procedure and feel comfortable with your treatment options.
