Timur P. Sarac, MD, joined Yale in April 2014 as Chief of Vascular Surgery and Co-Director of the Heart and Vascular Center at Yale New Haven Hospital. He spent 15 years at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and The Cleveland Clinic Lerner School of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University of Medicine. There he was Vice Chairman of the Department of Vascular Surgery. Dr. Sarac is the founder of Peritec Biosciences and inventor tissue lined stents, AAA stent grafts, and percutaneous heart valves, along with many other vascular technologies. He is a graduate of The State of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, receiving his Medical Degree with Honors (magna cum laude) in 1990. Dr. Sarac completed his general surgery at the University of Rochester, and went on as a fellow in vascular surgery at University of Florida where he received the SAVS’s prestigious Founder’s Award. He also completed a research fellowship at Rochester (1993-1994), and a fellowship in Endovascular Surgery at Texas Tech University in 2001. Additionally, he is a retired Major in the United States Army Reserves and received a Army Medal of Commendation for his innovative endovascular care of injured soldiers during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. He spent 16 years in the Army Reserves and spent many years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Sarac’s research career began in Medical School where he won the Bannerman Award for excellence in research. He has experience in both basic and clinical research with extensive experience in stent research, with over 100 publications and book chapters, and over 20 national and international patents.
Dr Sarac is currently working on a new AAA stent graft design and outcomes research for endovascular surgery.
