Ear Pinning [Otoplasty]

Both children and adults may be self-conscious if their ears are too prominent. This prominence happens when there is an abnormal formation of cartilage at the base of the ear.

At the Yale Cosmetic Surgery Center, our internationally renowned plastic surgeons can reduce the curvature of the cartilage to create a more normal ear proportion. Ear pinning surgery can be performed on children over the age of five and in adults. Ear pinning can provide a more balanced look by:
  • Reducing the prominence of your ears
  • Changing the shape or proportion of your ears
  • Reconstructing a damaged ear
During your private consultation, we will discuss you or your child’s goals, describe different options best suited for you or your child, and provide a recommended course of treatment. We will also make sure that you understand and feel comfortable with what to expect before, during, and after your surgery.

What To Expect:

Ear pinning can be done under local or general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Once your ears have healed, they will appear smaller and more in balance to your natural features.

With 3D imaging technology, our surgeons can simulate the proposed outcome of ear pinning, so that you can see the results before the surgical process. It also allows us to make adjustments to discrepancies in the surgical plan.
